Chris Gorak made a name for himself with brilliant directorial debut Right At Your Door, while he has also worked as art director on the likes of Fight Club and Minority Report. Chris Gorak: I’m a huge fan of sci-fi cinema. I always wanted to work as a director on a science-fiction movie, if not alien invasion. And when I first read this material, it was the concept of the danger being invisible for most of the film, and the enemy being based on electricity. How that enemy is seen and not seen and then how we could cinematically tell that story of being chased by something invisible and ‘now you see it, ray ban sunglasses outlet , now you don’t’ and all the opportunity that gives you in terms of storytelling. Gorak: When we first started developing this film with Tom [Rothman, the producer] over a year ago, we all had a certain 2D movie in our head, and then this 3D tide turned and we started investigating that possibility of 3D and realized that so many different elements of this film lend themselves to 3D storytelling. Like, for one, Moscow as a new kind of environment that I don’t think the movie-going audience has experienced on such a scale. The alien itself, the powers of the alien – the shredding, violence and lightning, and the alien electrical-charging – all the different elements really lend themselves to 3D storytelling. But there is an added challenge of all that extra technology, time set-up, and the possibility of more technical difficulties.

It is a sad fact that filmmaking by independent producers entails a significant amount of risk. Without any backing from the distribution machinery and clout of a major studio, the filmmakers are often at the mercy of third party distributors who may or may not effectively deliver. It would be fortunate if the said parties actually do their best in ensuring that the films gets to be shown in major venues where more people can have the chance of seeing it. Otherwise, the producers would have to content themselves with the very little proceeds that they may get from the exhibition.
The internet, however, has positively impacted independent films and their makers. I only just got round to seeing Shreks 1 and 2 in the last couple of months. I thought they were pretty cool, although I think I like the second movie a little more than the first.

So I’m kinda curious for seeing Shrek the Third next summer. A brand new trailer has been posted online for the flick which you can all see by clicking here.

It made me laugh and as always with Shrek the animation just looks great. It even looks like a huge leap from the first movie, especially in the close-ups of Prince Charming.

It’s official. It’s happening. Inglorious Bastards will be out in 2009.

And while we wait, we think we’ll just stick on our copy of The Whole Bloody Affair, the Kill Bill re-edit QT promised would be out on DVD by now. But wait, that doesn’t exist. And come this time next year, we doubt Inglorious Bastards will either.

But still, here’s what QT’s announced. “The next movie I’m doing is my WWII movie Inglorious Bastards. I actually just finished the first draft of the script and when I go home I’ll be finishing it up…and if all goes well [pregnant pause] I will be here 2009 at Cannes with my war film INGLORIOUS BASTARDS!!! [applause].”
