Playing both the staunch human battleship and the diminished old woman sifting through her past, Meryl Streep is riveting in The Iron Lady. Her physical and verbal mimicry are uncanny, but her embodiment of an indomitable, uniquely British spirit perhaps even more so. The performance provides this engrossing if somewhat deferential biopic of Margaret Thatcher with a richly conflicted center that befits one of the most divisive figures in 20th century politics. With less complexity or cleverness, the film follows in the footsteps of Stephen Frears’ 2006 The Queen, another intimate portrait of a British head of state. Scripted by Abi Morgan (Shame) and directed by Phyllida Lloyd, The Iron Lady digs more incisively into character than context. Watch The Iron Lady Movie 2011 Online
Just as Thatcher continues to have passionate champions and detractors more than two decades after the end of her eventful 11½-year tenure as U.K. Prime Minister, the film stands to split audiences. Some will likely admire its even-handedness while others may find its point of view timid and mollifying, shaped less by objective detachment than by the distorting lens of compassion.
It’s a standard and probably silly assumption that any release skewing toward the specialty end of the theatrical market will take a liberal position. That seems even more of a given when the subject is an archconservative who reshaped Britain and was a galvanizing force on the world political stage. But the film goes to considerable pains to fudge its point of view. Whether you see this as a shrewd move or a cop-out, the filmmakers have played it both ways, allowing Thatcher to be read as either a towering leader or a bullying monster, depending on your politics. Accessing the central character as an enfeebled, lonely widow grappling with an unreliable memory is a sure way to blur the picture. That means fears among Tory prognosticators in Britain that this was going to be a hatchet job prove largely unfounded.
Instead, it’s a humanizing cheap five fingers shoes , at times touchingly sentimental drama, its most persuasive moments often outside the political arena. The keynote of vulnerability is struck from the opening scene in which Thatcher, in her 80s, alarms her security detail by tottering off unsupervised to the local shop for milk. Only after a boiled egg breakfast with her husband Dennis (Jim Broadbent) does it become clear that Margaret has been a widow for many years.
Those imagined conversations with the ghost of Dennis — a chortling, playful old codger in Broadbent’s endearing performance — establish a poignant us-and-them dynamic that ponders the solitary fog of old age. Streep is masterful at showing the internal battle between failing mental faculties and a refusal to relinquish dignity and command, yielding moments in which the confused elderly Thatcher appears convinced she is still the P.M. The mettle of her glory years resurfaces when the hallucinations of Dennis begin threatening her lucidity, prompting an attempt to banish him from her mind.
The framing action takes place around the time of the 2005 London terrorist attacks, and Morgan’s script deftly uses present-day triggers to summon flashbacks. These skip through Margaret’s youth as a grocer’s daughter (played with pluck and intelligence by Alexandra Roach), inheriting an early interest in politics from her father; her Oxford years and courtship by young businessman Dennis (Harry Lloyd); her determined first foot in the door of the boys’ club of conservative politics; and her 1959 entry into Parliament.
But the dramatic core is the rollercoaster of the 1980s, when Thatcher’s policies forged a new Britain out of financial deregulation, mass privatization, decreased public-service spending and the hobbling of the trade unions. With extensive use of news clips, the film touches on the widespread protests, the poll tax riots, the miners’ strike, the IRA bombings; it also alludes to soaring unemployment, the collapse in national industrial output and the widening gap between Britain’s new class of millionaires and its rapidly expanding poor.
But the real meat of that story is covered in such whirlwind fashion — reducing Thatcher’s opposition to angry background rabble — that the film sacrifices its big-picture impact. Thatcher’s quasi-romantic political kinship with Ronald Reagan is distilled to a quick visual of them waltzing at an official ceremony. Considering how widely financial pundits have connected the dots between policies of that era and the world’s current economic chaos, The Iron Lady seems coy in its reluctance to make harder-hitting, more provocative points. It’s not quite toothless, but definitely a soft-focus portrait. While some of the key episodes have an unintended campy feel (a stone-faced Maggie growling “Sink it,” about the Belgrano during the 1982 Falklands Conflict), a handful of terrific scenes do provide insightful glimpses into those tumultuous years. Watch The Iron Lady Movie 2011 Online
As trusted political advisers, Roger Allam and Nicholas Farrell are priceless as they groom Thatcher for the party leadership, diplomatically considering areas in need of a makeover. Richard E. Grant exudes twitchy antagonism as Michael Heseltine during a tense encounter when the ferment in Thatcher’s ranks becomes evident. And Streep’s magnificent fury is electrifying opposite the shocked humiliation of Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Howe (an excellent Anthony Head) during a sharp rebuke in a cabinet meeting that led to his resignation and precipitated her downfall.

Movie: BuzzKill
Release Date: 2011 (USA)
Directors: Steven Kampmann
Writers: Steven Kampmann, Matt Smollon
Genres: Comedy
No, honestly, this show was THEE staple of my formative-adolescent mind. Hit me right at the cusp of innocence-to-pubescence, going from elementary to junior high. I totally remember Dave, Frank, and Travis’ escapades (does anyone remember the New Orleans episode where they streaked??) The theme song crystallized in my head and I can sing it on cue ‘ not that it matters because most people I know have neevr heard of this show. Never knew of its ghastly consequences on society and all the jackassed cum laude to come. Jackass, Tom Green’ didn’t even hold a candle.
I’m sure if I watched it now (what, with all this oversubmergence in reality-show fiascos) Buzzkill will look like a lame horse waiting to be shot. But boyyy I tell you, at the TIME it came out I was ENTHRALLED.
Whatever- the only two good MTV shows in the summer of 96 were this one and Oddville, MTV. Good enough to start my own RELIGION in the summer before middle school. It’s more than tragic that I may very well be the only fan in america. There isn’t even a fansite!

I’m glad to see that there are other people who remember this show. With all the hype Tom Green, Jackass and Andy Milo-dip-s*@#! get, they mostly ripped off Buzzkill. Not only did they rip it off, but Buzzkill was way more stylish. It was right before MTV started sucking.
I used to watch this show during my freshmen year of high school (1996-1997). Some of my favorite episodes were ‘Bigfoot’, ‘Whack my car for a buck!’ and I remember the episode where Frank was posing as Issac Mizrahi at some premiere party. It’s funny, because years ago I saw an interview with Issac Mizrahi where he was saying that people come up to him and go, ‘Your the dude from Buzzkill.

The Eagle

Posted by admin on Saturday Jan 14, 2012 Under movie phone

“The Eagle” is a new movie set in the wilderness of the North of Britain during Roman times. It’s based on a book written in 1954 by Rosemary Sutliff that’s entitled “The Eagle of the Ninth.” Sutliff was one of the 20th century’s most popular authors for children and young adults.
New movie release, “The Eagle,” is a little too one-dimensional but it’s still an exciting story of the clash of the Roman culture with that of the inhabitants of Britain of the time. The theme of the upcoming movie is lost honor that’s regained. It’s much less bloody and brutal than most movies about this time period.
This movie picture will undoubtedly do well in Britain and perhaps in some other international markets but may not do as well in the U.S. The PG-13 release by Focus may be a little too simple for adults and teens may not think that it has enough action or fun.
Viewers are going to notice right away that the Romans in “The Eagle” speak American English. Usually, Romans in English speaking movies speak very high class British English and everyone else speaks American English. Scottish Director Kevin Macdonald made a clever decision here. The Romans should sound like outsiders in Britain. The British natives, a tribe called the Picts, speak Scots Gaelic that’s translated in subtitles. Macdonald’s choice of American English for the Romans also suggests that America has taken over Britain’s reputation as an empire builder. As clever as MacDonald’s language decision was, it can be a little hard to get used to.
Macdonald and producer Duncan Kenworthy both loved Sutliff’s novel as children and new movie reviews will say that they adapted their favorite childhood book with a lot of care. They do a great job in the movie of imagining what the tribes who lived north of Hadrian’s Wall in the year 140 A.D. must have been like.
The mystery in “The Eagle” is what happened to the 5,000 men who were part of the Ninth Legion – the brave men who vanished in Scotland (or Caledonia, as it was then called.) It has recently been discovered that the Ninth Legion showed up at some later point in Germany but the story in the movie is set twenty years after the disappearance. It’s much more exciting to consider that the troops just disappeared, rather than thinking that they showed up in Germany some time later.
Marcus Aquila, played by Channing Tatum, is the young commander in charge of a Roman fort in the midst of the British woods. He is after only one thing – restoring his father’s honor. His father led his troops into the northern wilderness and disappeared. Marcus Aquila needs to find the golden eagle of the Ninth.
Marcus is quickly wounded by the locals, and his limp after he recovers is another symbol of a disabled empire. Once wounded, Marcus is relieved of his duties and goes to the villa of his uncle, played by Donald Sutherland to heal. He soon learns that the Eagle may have been seen in the North. Jamie Bell, appears in the movie as Esca, a young Caledonian slave.

How to find an acting manager

Posted by admin on Friday Jan 13, 2012 Under movie phone

What do acting managers do? How are they different from agents? Do you need a personal manager if you have an agent? Here you’ll find answers to these questions as well as tips on how to pick good talent management companies.
If you want to know how to get an acting manager, click here and follow the same steps you would to get an agent.
What’s a talent manager?
A good personal manager manages your entire acting career:
They should give you advice and counseling on acting pictures and resumes, what roles to go for, what areas of training to focus on, how to market yourself and how to take your career to the next level. Some acting managers will even coach you for an important audition or help you select the right wardrobe for your headshots.
They should help you build a team (i.e. get an agent, publicist and down the road possibly a business manager and attorney) and as you grow as an actor, coordinate everyone in the team to further your career.
They should network for you and generally facilitate you getting the next acting job.
What’s the difference between managers and agents?
Unlike agents, acting management companies are not supposed to procure work or negotiate for actors, although many talent managers will send actors who don’t have an agent on auditions.
Talent managers take a 15% commission on all your performer earnings, while an agent will take 10% in the area they represent you in (so if you only have a commercial agent and book a theater role, you would not pay a commission to your agent, but you would pay 15% to your manager whether you book a commercial, a film or a play).
Acting agencies are usually regulated by the state. Many states require an acting agent to have a license and post a bond. Some states also require that the agent pay the actor within a certain amount of days and limits the commission an agent can take. ATA and NATR member talent agencies also have agreements with actors’ unions. Unlike agents, acting management companies in most states do not need to have a special license. There are many more talent management companies then talent agencies and an actor should do research to make sure a personal manager is legit before signing a contract.
…so do you NEED a manager?
The answer to that question really depends on your situation and the kind of managing you will get.
If you are further along in your career, a manager will organize your busy schedule and help you achieve your long-term goals. If you are just starting out and unable to get an agent, an acting manager can give you access to more auditions and help you get an agent.
Acting is a very competitive career and the more people you have on your side the better. If you find a good personal manager who is well-respected in the industry and will work hard for you, don’t hesitate because of the 15% commission. 85% of something is better then 100% of nothing. That being said, if you already have an agent and you find a manager who doesn’t do much more then submit actors on auditions, think hard before signing a contract. Having 2 representatives has disadvantages: information can get lost and double submissions often exasperate casting directors.
Bottom line? You may not need an acting manager, but you’ll want to sign with a good one.
How to pick a good manager
Here are a few tips to help you pick a good personal manager:
Make sure the manager is legit. Don’t sign with anyone who charges a fee for representation or requires that you take a specific class or get your headshots taken by a photographer of their choice. You can also call actors’ unions and the Better Business Bureau to see if anyone has filed a complaint about a particular personal manager. Check if the manager belongs to an organization that has its own rules and code of ethics, like the National Conference of Personal Managers.
A manager needs to be well connected and respected in the industry. Ask acting teachers, fellow actors and casting directors who has heard the name of the talent management company in question. Of course, if you are starting an acting career, you may have no choice but to pick a manager who is also starting out. If that’s the case, ask the manager for references and call up a few actors he or she already represents.
Your acting manager needs to be able to work well with your agent, so discuss your plans of signing with a particular manager with your agent beforehand.
Find out how big the management company’s client list is. This is important since acting managers need to be able to give you a lot of personalized attention.
Note that a manager who represents other artists, like writers, directors and producers, is particularly valuable, since it will allow you to build relationships and audition for whichever of their clients’ projects you are right for.
Hope all this information helps you pick the perfect manager for you. May your phone ring off the hook with calls for auditions from talent management companies!

Watch Hugo Online free movie

Posted by admin on Tuesday Oct 25, 2011 Under movie phone

Judging from the range of comments on Hugo Pool they seem to run the gamut. As a film, it’s not the kind of thing I’d usually watch, but it did contain some rather strange characters.
Alyssa Milano in between her stints as Tony Danza’s daughter in Who’s The Boss and one of the Halliwell sisters in Charmed was cast in the lead by director Robert Downey, Sr. She seems to have taken complete charge of the pool cleaning company that is a family business because dad (Malcolm McDowell) is reverting to being a teenager and mom (Cathy Moriarty) can’t control her gambling addiction. In fact she either has to come up with the money or sleep with the bookie.
Anyway somebody has to step up to the plate and Alyssa seems the only one likely to do so. She’s got a lot of customers out there in Nevada who want to use their swimming pools because of the heat and who need them cleaned.
Anyway on her route she meets Patrick Dempsey who even with Lou Gehrig’s disease is not about to miss out on all the good things in life. In fact one of only two parts of his anatomy are untouched by amytrophic lateral sclerosis, his brain and the love muscle. In fact the second has some remarkable staying power as he informs us.
Hugo Pool is the story of all these characters and the day they spend together. It’s an interesting tale and maybe had it been done in a more straightforward and romantic way, I might have liked the film better.
Still it’s not the fault of the cast who give some very good performances. Not mentioned by me before are Robert Downey, Jr. as an egotistical movie director and Sean Penn as a hitchhiker Malcolm McDowell picks up. Dig those sky blue shoes that Penn wears.
Hugo Pool might be your cup of tea, it wasn’t quite mine though. This is a little babe of a movie, the kind that comes on at 1 am and you can’t turn it off. Very inventive casting. McDowell and Penn are delightful as are Moriority and Milano. Then, you also have Downey, Jr, Dempsey, and Lewis (AND Chuck Barris). A zany cast of “characters”! I was impressed with how handily Milano carried herself and led this cast.
I’m generally not a fan of Robert Downey Senior’s movies. His characters tend to be cartoons and his episodic style means that we seem to be watching a series of “Saturday Night” comedy sketches. “Hugo Pool” has enough great actors in it that all the usual faults are turned into virtues. It also has a sweetness and heart that I haven’t seen in any other Downey film.
The film is dedicated to Downey’s wife and co-writer Laura Ernst. She died of the same terrible disease that the character played by Patrick Dempsey has. It is amazing how Downey shows the disease, but never lets us get sentimental over it or be afraid of it. It is just one more comic element in the film. I hope Laura coped with it as well as Patrick Dempsey’s character does.
The stand out performance here is by Malcolm McDowell. His portrayal of an old drug addict trying to kick the “Ding, Dang, Du” is charming and funny and sad all at once. The only unfortunate thing is that he’s only on screen for about 20 minutes.
I think the harsher criticisms of this film are by people who expected a more realistic, integrated film. If you willing to give Downey his quirky style, this film is sweet and delightful. I have to admit, as I watched the movie, my expectations haven’t been met. Most of all, I expected a plot. Since most movies have one, at least to some degree, the `average’ watcher tends to expect one here, too. But, it didn’t take me long, until I realized that this movie wasn’t the `average’ movie, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. Watch Hugo Movie Online
In the first scene where Hugo’s father was introduced, I began to realize what the character of this movie is like. This perception strengthened as more and more people showed up and exhibited their unorthodox, quirky features. Alone the weird things like `a stranger is sleeping in somebody else’s truck, then the owner shows up, asks no questions and they both hit the road without even wasting a thought about what this is all about’ made me laugh. The dialogs between the characters and the spontaneous and almost unreasonable turns of the plot make the movie special. It is hard to explain to someone who hasn’t watched it.

Read the other comments and you’ll find the opinions range from real bad to gorgeous. My advice is, be open-minded. This is not the average movie – in many aspects. Don’t have too high expectations and you won’t be disappointed, this movie is no blockbuster but it sure can be very entertaining if you give it a chance.
